PictureExcerpt of painting by my mother Polly Burns in the early 1970's

buckle my soul

BUCKLE MY SOUL is a feature project based on a doctor I knew as a child.  He moved from the Bronx to the rural south in the 1950's and dedicated his life and practice to serving the underprivileged and mostly African-American communities surrounding his clinic.  He was an early proponent for civil rights, started the first interracial theater in his area, and adopted five children.  In 1976, he was accused of murdering a baby.  Please read more about the project, which was featured on Creative Capital's On Our Radar page in 2012, was a semifinalist in Tribeca All Access 2010, was a semifinalist in Creative Capital 2011 and a selected project for Cardozo's Indie Film Clinic 2014.
